Mahmud Johnson

Mahmud is a entrepreneur from Liberia interested in creating opportunities for youth to realize their full potentials through entrepreneurship and education. In 2013, He started J-Palm, an oil palm processing company, that currently provides employment opportunities for over 42 young Liberians. Given the fact that high youth unemployment remains one of the most significant socioeconomic challenges in Liberia, this is one of the most exciting aspects of his job.

Mahmud also works part-time as Senior Economic Analyst at Aurora Solutions, a strategy consulting company that works at the intersection of business strategy and economic development in Liberia. In addition to his company and consulting work, he also works directly with in-school youth through a project started in 2012 called the iTeach, iLearn Fellowship. Through this program, Mahmud mentors and tutors talented young Liberians applying to international universities.

He is currently working to expand the program to more schools and students from underprivileged backgrounds. Mahmud is a 2013 graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, USA, where he studied Economics, and is also an alumnus of the Business Bridge program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Prior to Dartmouth, he worked for a year as Public Affairs Intern in the Office of the President of Liberia. He also served as co-host of “Let’s Talk About Sex,” a popular youth radio show aimed to prevent HIV infection and unintended pregnancies among youth.
